Before they started calling 2/5 “Super Duper Tuesday,” they were referring to it as Tsunami Tuesday. I recall from those science classes all those years ago that before a tsunami, all the water leaves the shores, the ocean pulling back in preparation for the big wave. If folks know what they’re seeing, they can prepare; they can head for higher ground.
In similar fashion, I think we’re seeing the Clintons’ ocean pulling back in preparation for a tsunami of a different sort to hit them on Tuesday. The ocean of public opinion, of national endorsement is pulling away from them in preparation for, perhaps, a tsunami of an Obama movement to hit them on Super Duper Tuesday.
What do I see that makes me say this? In just the last week, we have seen the following high profile endorsements for Barack Obama:
Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy (2/5 primary)
Susan Eisenhower (yeah, his granddaughter)
Connecticut Congressmen John Larson and Chris Murphy and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (2/5 primary state)
Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer (5/20 primary)
North Dakota Congressman Earl Pomeroy (2/5 caucus)
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels (2/9 caucus)
Former Fed Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker
Lawyers for the Gitmo Detainees
The Transport Workers Union
The Service Employees International Union of CA
Newspapers: Arizona Republic, Aspen Times, Chicago Tribune, The Daily Star (NY), LA Times, La Opinion (LA’s largest Spanish newspaper), Native Times, NY Post, SF Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Yale Daily News (where HRC went to law school)
In addition to these endorsements, some pop culture moves are happening. Check out this powerful video going viral on the web:
At the same time, polls are showing that Obama is closing on Clinton rapidly in national polls and in California, which is supposed to be one of her firewall states.
I see the water moving back from the shore and gathering for the tsunami. Do you?
