Enforcing a little used and seldomly-interpreted-to-mean-what-it-did-today rule, the White House let all of its employees in Germany know that they were not allowed to attend Barack Obama’s speech in Berlin today. The State Department labeled Obama’s appearance a “partisan political activity.” Granted, the Obama campaign paid for the trip. But, come on …. I love that the White House threw his foot in this one. Because with all 200,000+ people there today, someone might just see an American, realize that she is foreign service, and suddenly assume that W., himself, endorses Obama. Golly. See The Washington Post for all the details.
