McCain barbs stirring outcry as distortions

This article is in the New York Times this morning and cites example after example, corroburated by independent and Republican sources, where McCain has severely stretched or distorted the truth in attacking Obama, outside the limits of “normal” political campaigning.  To be fair, the article also mentions a few instances where Obama has been a bit liberal with the truth, but the overall sense is that the former straight-talk express has been completely derailed and is mired squarely in the murk.

Perhaps the most disturbing part of the article is the point that this crap is working!  This, of course, feeds into my building frustration that the electorate refuses to educate itself in any meaningful way, preferring, out of laziness, to get its information from 30 second ads, Fox Noise, and Star Magazine.  Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely celebrate the fact that the American people are turned on in this election season more than we’ve seen in decades.  But the vast majority are still too lazy to actually decipher truth from distortion.  I saw a button yesterday at Etsy.com:  Elitists for Obama.  Hmmmm …..
