Even though Ike won’t come anywhere near us here in Northern AL, we’re running out of gas. Thursday night, a local gas station warned that customers would only be allowed 10 gallons per visit. On Friday, gas lines formed and a fight was even reported at a local station. Prices began rising, leading to the Governor declaring a state of emergency in Alabama, mainly to allow for prosecution of gas stations involved in price gouging. In the meantime, stations literally began running out of gas as folks tried to fill up ahead of the inevitable skyrocketing prices due to Ike’s presence in the oil-refining Gulf.
Not even considering all of this, I filled up Friday morning, simply because I was running out of gas. I did notice that I was paying about 20 cents more per gallon, to $3.67. By this evening, it was as high as $4.39 in this area. I expect it will get worse before it gets better.
